YOUR SECURITY MEASURES: IT’S NOT AS GOOD AS YOU MIGHT THINK

Why Clear View Fence is your best option!

So – you actually, think you are safe!? I mean you have an alarm system fitted (‘state of the art’ the salesman promised), you have an electric fence pulsing out 8 joules of electrical shock, which is fitted to your palisade fence right around your property and your dogs are huge, hyper-intelligent and wide awake, as is your armed reaction company… But!  Do you have a Clear View fence?

All of the above mentioned naturally combine to give you a warm fuzzy feeling of well-being since you have protection in depth (several layers of it in fact!) I am sorry to burst your bubble.  Taken in isolation or even combined, None of these measures mean anything and here is why:

Nothing beats Knowledge, Experience and Statistics

  • 20 years as a Police Forensic investigator has taught me that people don’t use their security systems once the ‘honeymoon period’ is over. I have over the years stood at the bodies of many hundreds of people that had the best security systems money could buy yet they did not use it or they knew the people that have murdered/raped or attacked them. But quite apart from that, there are the following factors at play as well:
    • 99% of alarm systems PIR sensors are not motion detection sensors at all but Infra-Red Temperature (Thermal)Sensors – they use the Infrared heat signature of a person  in order to put the control unit into an alarm condition – if the heat source is removed  (say for instance keeping a thick blanket between you and the sensor) there is no change in the infrared heat patterns and hence no alarm activation.

    • An  electrical fence is at best only a perception of security,  it will only keep the  casual thieves away since the professional guy will have a couple of ways of neutralizing your fence –such as to cover the wires with packaging tape in the horizontal plane and to then pull the same wires away from each other in the vertical plane in order to create a space big enough to climb through with no resultant shock– see for yourself:

 Another Problem Solved:

    • The palisade fence? Well, the palisade fence is the easiest of your several layers of security to get around (or through).  5 minutes with a saw blade will see you on the other side.  If noise isn’t a problem  5 seconds with a battery-operated angle grinder will do the trick.
    • Your dogs!!  If all else fails they will at least make a racket in order to warn you of impending doom, you think… A misconception I am sorry to say. When the dogs sleep outside they will make a racket almost every night.  They are also easy to get to with poison for instance. Should your dogs sleep inside they are probably sleeping as soundly as you are.  I have been to cases where the perpetrators have stepped right over big dogs to get to their targets. Sometimes the dogs are hopelessly outnumbered because of the number of intruders that they are forcibly overpowered and removed from the scene.

It’s best not to let sleeping dogs lie:

    • And then we have the Armed Reaction Companies.  If you don’t live in a gated community with security, the average  reaction time is about 12 minutes (on average).  In 12 minutes a lot of bad things can happen. Even the top Security Estates in the country are also oftentimes inundated with crime.  The reasons are many and varies but there is sometimes more crime within those walls than outside.

So what is the solution then?

Well, we don’t all live in high-security environments and therefore ‘physical security measures’ should replace the armed guards in cars.  Right now the ‘See-through fence’ or ‘Clear View’ type fence probably is the best physical obstruction and deterrence to criminal activities and it works very well alone or in conjunction with other measures such as CCTV- and Alarm Systems with external Beams and Sensors.

Clear View Type Fence:

I have gone into some detail about the Anti Climb, Anti Cut fences in another article so do yourself a favour and visit our website at www.0861clearview.co.za but just to put you in the picture here are some of the pro’s of a Clearview Type Fence:

  • You cannot hide behind them so any movement is monitored.  Whether by CCTV or by guards or even yourself should you happen to look at the scenery.
  • It is extremely difficult to climb over as your hands and feet won’t fit into the 12.6 x 7mm diameter squares.
  • The coatings on the better types of products makes it difficult to cut or break
  • With the added benefit of it having a 25 year guarantee against rust (only applicable on certain types).
  • It is very easy to add proper electrical fencing (with anti-lift tensioners)

There you go!  If you need perimeter security you need to give us a call or visit our website (details below).
